About The View From Here

Why create a podcast?

The View From Here podcast, launching its first season with weekly episodes from 26 November 2025, shines a fresh light on LGBTQ+ history through long-form interviews with some of the UK’s leading activists.

The podcast’s line-up of influential interviewees have each taken centre-stage, driving progress on LGBTQ+ rights from the 1950s to the present day, fighting heroically for the rights and acceptance we enjoy today.

The View From Here has been created to ensure these stories are not lost. The episodes feature joy, and passion, stories of heroic courage, stories of coming out, the birth of the LGBTQ+ movement and inspiring activism. By publishing these interviews, we aim to inspire the next generation of activists and remind ourselves how we got here, particularly as the world stands on the precipice of a highly concerning direction of travel on minority rights.

Co-hosts

Jonathan Chambers

“I’ve always been astonished by how moving it is to hear the stories of the many courageous activists who risked everything in very different times to advance many of the rights that our community enjoys today. This podcast exists to celebrate and illuminate these stories and bring them to a wider audience.

“At a time when LGBTQ+ rights seem to be going in reverse, it’s absolutely vital that we inspire a new generation of activists who recognise how hard our community has fought, how precious our rights are, and how easily they can be taken from us.”

James Alexander

“I’ve been inspired, angered and amazed by the incredible stories we’ve heard recording this podcast. The stories of hardship, courage and endurance told by our guests regularly leave us in tears. I’m so pleased we can bring these incredible stories to a wider audience.”
